Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee at our monthly luncheon. Ted Olsen, of Sherman & Howard, who has years of experience defending workplace violence lawsuits and counseling employers – often in the midst of a crisis – on their response to this societal condition, will present an update on workplace violence law and provide advice on ways to improve safety and minimize potential liabilities.
Incidents of mass killings and violence continue . . . Chuck E. Cheese, Columbine High School, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Texas, Sandy Hook Elementary School, Arapahoe High School, Aurora Century 16 Theater, Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and now, Umpqua Community College, just to name a few.
As violence has escalated, so have the legal responsibilities of employers. Regulatory agencies, such as OSHA, are treating incidents of workplace violence as potential “general duty clause” violations and are releasing guidelines for preventing violence for various industries. Recent court decisions, including those involving the Aurora Theater shootings, have imposed greater obligations (and liabilities) on the work sites of such tragedies. Employers are now expected to identify would-be killers in advance, to keep them from the workplace, and to take assorted other steps to protect employees and others from workplace violence.
This session has been approved for the following CLM credits:
CLMSM Application Credit: 1 hour in the category of Human Resource Management (HR) (the Management Category on the application would be Organizational Development)
CLMSM Recertification Credit: 1 hour in the subject area of Human Resource Management (HR)
CLMSM App Credit for Functional Specialists: 1 hour in the subject area of Human Resource Management (HR) towards the additional hours required of some Functional Specialists to fulfill the CLM application.
Mr. Olsen will join us at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Denver, 934 16th Street Mall, Denver, CO 80202. Back by popular demand: valet parking for those members outside of downtown Denver. Please indicate in your registration if you will be using that service.
In an effort to thank our members for their continued loyalty to the Mile High Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, the Board has lowered the price of the monthly educational luncheons from $30 to ONLY $10 per lunch for the 2015-2016 Board Year! This reduction in price is good for the last of the educational lunches in this Board year scheduled for 3/17/16. The price for guests will remain at $35 per luncheon.
Our monthly educational sessions would not be possible without the generous support of our Business Partners.
