Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee at our January monthly luncheon.  Stephen (Pete) Peterson the CEO of the advisory firm Maxfield Peterson and the Managing Director of the Firm’s specialty practice, the Law Firm Business Institute will present "Succession Planning-Preparing for the Future". 

The pending retirement of the baby boomer generation and the unrelenting challenge of finding and keeping talented professionals can have grave consequences for firms that fail to develop a succession strategy. Too many firms have no succession plan in place.  In this session, you will learn how to prepare for the shift as senior partners inch toward retirement.  In addition, we will discuss strategies for leadership succession. 

Session Objectives:

1. Identify factors to consider when designing a succession plan
2. Learn about best practices for leadership development
3. Examine compensation strategies
4. Recognize other crucial areas of succession

Stephen (Pete) Peterson is the CEO of the advisory firm Maxfield Peterson and is the Managing Director of the Firm’s specialty practice, the Law Firm Business Institute. Prior to this, he was the Chief Operating Officer for Hildebrandt International. Pete has also been the Director of Administration for Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly in Minneapolis and CFO for Davis Graham & Stubbs in Denver.  He has been engaged in the legal services sector since 1987.

He counsels firms on strategic planning, firm governance, succession planning, mergers and acquisitions, compensation, business and administrative operations, and profitability improvement.

Pete was also an adjunct professor in the Master of Science in Legal Administration program at the Sturm College of Law, University of Denver. He has taught in the Essential Competencies for Legal Administrators offered by the Association of Legal Administrators.  Pete is also on the Board of Editors for the publication, Accounting and Financial Planning for Law Firms and is a Fellow in the College of Law Practice Management.  Pete is a frequent speaker at educational and legal related conferences and seminars every year.

The Board has agreed to continue to offer paid validate parking for those members outside of downtown Denver.  Please indicate in your registration if you will be using that service.

The ALA Mile High Chapter Community Relations Committee has undertaken an initiative for the next few months to collect donations for the Denver Rescue Mission so they can assist those in need during this cold and wintery time of year.  Please bring items you would like to donate to the luncheon, and we’ll take them off your hands.
