Steven Reid and Raul Chacon, Jr. of Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C.will present on changes coming to Colorado Employment Law, including a New Pay Equity Law and New Sick Leave Requirements.  Colorado lawmakers have been busy recently, enacting several laws affecting the employment relationship, including a new equal pay for equal work law, prohibiting employers from discriminating because of gender.  Colorado also enacted new paid sick leave requirements, which employers to provide paid sick leave in 2020 related to the pandemic and then across the board beginning in 2021.

Steve Reid is experienced in all stages of litigation, including responsive pleadings, discovery, dispositive motions, arbitration, and trial. Steve has successfully defended employers in employment litigation matters before state and federal courts. His employment litigation experience includes representing employers in defense of claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Acts, the Family Medical Leave Act, and other state and federal discrimination, wage and hour, and workplace laws. He is also a skilled negotiator and has successfully helped several clients achieve positive outcomes in alternative dispute resolution. Steve has experience representing employers in defending against claims related to restrictive covenants and in asserting claims to enforce restrictive covenants.

Steve regularly assists employers with complaints filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state agencies. He also advises employers and management on human resource issues, employee handbooks, policies, severance agreements, EEO training, and workplace violence prevention protection orders.

Raul Chacon represents employers in a broad range of employment law matters. He has litigated single plaintiff suits, and has experience in a variety of employment litigation matters, including wage and hour and discrimination litigation. He has extensive experience in litigation in both federal and state courts, as well as in responding to charges brought before state and federal administrative agencies.

This presentation will assist attendees:

• To help employers comply with Colorado’s paid sick leave requirements for COVID-19 reasons as required through 2020.
• To help employers comply with Colorado’s paid sick leave requirements as required starting in 2021.
• To help employers comply with Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, effective January 2021.
