Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee at our monthly luncheon on Thursday, November 17th when Derek Barto will present on Retention and Compensation in the Legal Industry.
Since the beginning of the Pandemic, the United States has experienced some of the most drastic changes to the labor force on record. The effects on the legal industry have been some of the most prominent with a high demand for lawyers, compensation levels at all-time highs and remote work strategies taking a top priority in many firms across the nation. Derek Barto, Partner in Armanino’s Law Firm Services Group will lead this discussion on the challenges law firms are facing and strategies being used to address compensation and employee retention challenges in law firms.
This session will provide attendees with an in depth knowledge of the challenges that law firms are facing around compensation and retention in the legal industry. This includes:
- a review of the current compensation landscape along with historical trends,
- a discussion around the impact rising compensation levels has had on employee retention and
- insights on how law firms are responding to extraordinary changes in these areas.
As a partner in the Law Firm Services group, Derek spends 100% of his time consulting with law firms. He provides advice on critical issues that law firm managers encounter, including advising on partner compensation methodologies, merger and acquisition analysis, firms startups, finance and reporting restructuring, accounting department process improvement, profitability improvement, and analysis and benchmarking studies. His clients range from startup law firms with less than 10 attorneys to multi-office firms with over 500 attorneys operating in multiple states. He also manages tax return and financial statement engagements for his law firm clients. Derek has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accountancy from Wake Forest University and a master’s degree in law firm management from George Washington University.
