Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee at our next webinar on August 15, 2024. Gene Commander will share his research on the unprecedented trends that are impacting the legal profession. Special attention will be given to the mounting challenges law firms face as they struggle to attract, develop, reward, and retain productive talent. Gene’s insights and smart growth principles will help firms sustain financial and professional success by staying ahead of the talent curve.

 Session Objective:

1.The demographic, economic, professional, and technological trends that are transforming the business of law will increasingly threaten traditional law firm financial models.
2. Absent effective advance planning, firms will experience the harsh consequences of a dwindling supply of next generation talent who have an owner’s mentality and the leadership skills to fill the shoes of departing partners.
3. Firm leaders should embrace smart growth business strategies to foster a magnetic workplace culture that prepares next generation talent to navigate the disruptive business and professional challenges that lie ahead.

Gene Commander is an executive business counselor for the legal industry, with a special focus on proactive business growth strategies for Colorado law firms. He has more than 40 years of experience in the legal industry while practicing construction law with small, midsize, regional, and national firms. Gene gained a broad understanding of law firm management principles through past roles serving on the management committee of a midsize firm and as managing shareholder in the Denver office of an Am Law 100 firm.

Through Gene Commander Inc., he now helps law firms stay ahead of the curve by proactively adapting to shifting economic, demographic, and professional trends. He advises law firm leaders on implementing smart growth principles, including building a magnetic workplace culture, adopting nontraditional talent strategies, employing forward-looking compensation models, and embracing a continuing business education philosophy. Central to Gene’s work is the premise that law firms should broaden their talent pool by expanding opportunities for female lawyers and lawyers from underrepresented groups and by cultivating more inclusive workplaces.

Gene is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Denver Bar Association, Colorado Women’s Bar Association, Colorado LGBT Bar Association, Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, and Center for Legal Inclusiveness. Among other writing and speaking engagements, Gene is a frequent contributing writer to Law Week Colorado and Colorado Lawyer, where he shares business growth strategies that help future-focused law firms ensure their continued prosperity.
