Please join the Mile High Chapter Education Committee for our first webinar of the Board Year on June 27 at 12:00 p.m., where Joel Duran will present on "Inclusive Leadership." Be sure to bring your calendars, as this sessions will end with an overview of the exciting events coming up for the education committee of the Mile High ALA!
Due to the amazing feedback from our members, the 2025-2026 Mile High Board has voted to make all virtual education sessions free to members and guests! We hope that this decision will make education more accessible and engaging to our members. If you have any questions or concerns – please reach out to education chair Joel at [email protected].
Have you ever wondered what “leadership” really means? Or wanted to develop your own leadership skills but didn’t know where to begin? Have you ever been curious about what inclusivity looks like in practice? In this session, we’ll dive into each of these questions. We’ll start by examining how different schools of thought define leadership, using real-world examples and case studies to ground our discussion. From there, we’ll explore the concept of inclusive leadership - what it means, why it matters, and how to incorporate it into your own style. Finally, we’ll reflect on your personal leadership tendencies and explore ways to grow. Join us for this dynamic session and expand your understanding of leadership and inclusion in action!
Session Objectives
• Introduction of multiple definitions and theories of leadership.
• Understanding of the key characteristics of inclusive leadership.
• Reflection on personal leadership style and tendencies.
• Gain practical tips and tools for integrating inclusivity into leadership approach.
Joel Duran has worked in the legal management field for over five years and is currently a Community Engagement Specialist with the City of Boulder, striving to make representative governance a practice, rather than a theory. Joel is also receiving his Master’s of Public Administration with a concentration in Social Equity this year from CU Denver. As a proud queer person of color and an active member of the local community, Joel is deeply committed to fostering education, inclusion, and equity in professional spaces. In addition to their academic and professional pursuits, Joel serves as the Chair of the MHC ALA's Education Committee, where they are excited to bring new perspectives and engaging opportunities to all.
